No Pain, No Gain

Brook has the unfortunate luck of having an under bite. We've all seen the normal head gear that wraps around the neck, but few have seen the sweet device that Brook has the privilege of wearing for at least a few months. It is called reverse headgear. It goes on your face! The top part rests on your forehead, rubber bands link the middle to your mouth, and the bottom part rests on your chin. Nasty thing!

She has to wear it for 12 hours a day, so she has to put it on after dinner and then sleep in it all night. Poor girl. She has little choice if she is going to avoid surgery. Apparently, if the orthodontist is unable to move her jaw enough with this device and rubber bands when she has braces, she will have to have surgery when she is 17 or 18. She seems pretty motivated to avoid surgery, so I think she will wear it.

I know many readers are wishing that I had a sweet picture of Brook in her headgear, but I haven't been able to snap one yet. She's still on her guard. Don't worry, I will deliver! I have to have some blackmail on the girl for when she starts dating.

I feel her pain. I had to wear reverse headgear growing up too. :) Thank goodness I didn't have to wear it in public too. But maybe I'm not a good example of how you'll turn out.....:P
