About 3 years ago Paul and I decided to move to Suncrest. We built our house which took 1 year, and then we moved in about 2 years ago. When we told our family and friends in the area they thought we were crazy. "You're moving way out there!" they exclaimed. We took the comments through gritted teeth and moved anyway.
Well, now that we have lived here for a while and people should have gotten used to the idea, we kind of thought people would drop the comments about how far away we live from everything. Not so.
Last night we were at my nephew's 1st birthday party. Everyone at the party was my sister-in-law's family for the exception of us. They're an interesting bunch to say the least. Anyway, we have been eternally punished by my brother and sister-in-law because we live SO FAR AWAY! After hearing every single relative of my sister-in-law go off about how far we live and how we must hate the drive we find out that our dear relatives have made a recent trip to Boondocks for a day of fun. Now we used to do quite a bit together before we moved. We are being eternally punished for mvoing SO FAR AWAY. It is like pulling teeth to get them to come out to Draper to see us. The stars have to align and everything. At least they could have stopped to say hello.
They aren't the only ones though. My Uncle Steve and family recently came for a visit from Las Vegas for the 4th of July. It was the last day they were visiting, and my cousin wanted my father, who was also in town, to fix her computer. The original plan was for my father to drive down the mountain and go to their hotel room in Sandy before they left for home. I suggested they come up to the house (since it was on the way home anyway) and have my dad fix it at my house and then they could be on their merry little way. Uh, uh! "Do you really need your computer fixed?" asked my uncle. She responded, "Yes." His next suggestion to get out of driving up the hill was to wait until my parents needed to go to the airport. We would drop my parents off at their hotel, my dad would fix the computer and then he would drive them 40 miles out of his way to the airport. What!?? Finally, reason won the day and my aunt and cousin vetoed my uncle's repulsion for coming up the hill. Crazy!
We are about 7 minutes off the freeway for crying out loud! There are people that live east and west of the freeway that are as much as 20-30 minutes from a freeway. No one makes a comment about Herriman or West Jordan or West Valley! Ah!

i still have family members who comment that they have to "pack a lunch" to come to our house. l.a.m.e.
I so hear what you are saying but it has it pluses at times. We put money on a lot in West Jordan before we found Suncrest and it took 40+ min. to get to the freeway. I think everyone else is crazy to not want to live on our street. We can drive down what ever side of the moutain we want, it feels like vacation at home, and we dont breathe as much smog. Just wait till they have to drive to the East moutain of alpine for a baptism.
