It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Some people may say that their favorite day of the year is Christmas or Thanksgiving, but not mine. Oh no my friends. It's the first day of school. At least now it is. I used to have to work on the first day of school for my children, but no more. My district starts school a week later.

I went to the bus stop with Paul and the kids this morning to see them off. There were only a handful of kids at the bus stop. It was a little erie. I'm used to bringing the machete so I can cut through the throngs of parents that congregate on every inch of sidewalk by the bus. I find it idyllic that my children ride the tractor bus considering we got up early enough this morning to throw us in the farmer category.

After the kids had waved their last good-byes and ridden off into the sunrise, I did a little jig and went off to my empty car. Paul gets to play "Mr. Mom" this year which entails getting all of the kids ready for school and to their destinations on time. I, on the other hand, get to get myself ready and blast my music all the way to work without worrying if I'm damaging their ear drums. Prior to today, I think he thought it would be a piece of cake. "No problem," he said. "I'll even pack them a lunch." I just laughed to myself and told him it may be more work then he thinks.

Well, today Paul got a taste of my warning. I thought Paul's head was going to spin this morning when a last minute "All About Me Bag" assignment was re-discovered and hurriedly put together at the last minute.

P: (Counting the items in the bag) Wait! There's only 4 things in the bag and it says to bring 5-6 items to tell about yourself.
E: (Eye roll) Paul, it's okay. Take it from a teacher who knows. His teacher will be so glad that he only brought 4 items after she has been listening to 2nd graders go on and on about the 10 items most of them will inevitably bring.
P: (Deep sigh)
E: Let's roll. It's the best day of the year!

Matt would not know what to do with himself if he had to get the kids ready for school! Paul is a brave man {& you're a brave woman for trusting him to do the job!!}
