The 2nd Most Wonderful Time of the Year

There are three days of the year that I look forward to every year. You've already heard about my first favorite-the first day of school. The day you ship your kids off to learn something other than where the Wii remote control is in the house. My second favorite day of the year is the first day of Christmas break. One of the MANY perks a teacher gets to enjoy is a 2 week break from her job. Trust me, if you have ever taught children, you need this break. It is for the mental health of the teacher and the physical health of the child! (Don't take that comment too seriously).

I do have to say that this year's class has been wonderful. I have such a nice group of kids that I get to teach everyday. I rarely have to discipline anyone for anything more than talking. Most of the kids are harder on themselves than I am on them. It is also refreshing to not only have kids that care about their education, but parents that do as well. I have to admit that this is the first time in my teaching career that I have encountered this type of phenomenon. I would occasionally run into the kid or two that cared in my class and subsequently the parent or two that cared, but not an entire class full of them. It is the way education is supposed to be. I know it is unlikely that I will get this every year, but I'm enjoying it while I have it.

I went to my kids' program at their school yesterday. I felt very lucky to go. Even though I work 1/2 time I still miss a lot of the kids' performances, etc. It was a great performance and it kicked my Christmas break off to a great start. I have some pictures that I will post later.

Now, that I have ALL the time in the world, I can get to my Christmas to do list:
1. Finish my Christmas shopping
2. Finish wrapping all of my Christmas presents
3. Bake and deliver cookies to the neighbors (I wouldn't want to get the lame neighbor/friend award)
4. Clean my house to perfection for my parents and brother by the 23rd.
5. Get the carpet guy in the neighborhood to fix the carpet disaster left in the wake of Hurricane Sadie (She almost got a new home at the dog shelter for that one)
6. Get a replacement fixture for Brook's bathroom. Don't ask me how the light in the shower ended up shattered into a billion pieces one day.
7. Mail my Christmas cards that are quickly becoming "Happy New Year!" cards.

Here is what I hope I GET to do over the holiday break:
1. Sleep in
2. Go out to eat
3. Spend time with my family (only non-annoying members)
4. Shop with all those gift cards and cash that will magically appear in the mail
5. Finish my new puzzle
6. Read a book
7. Play board games

I'll let you know how that works out for me.

Unh-unh! I am shooting for the lame neighbor award. Don't you DARE try to take it away from me. I did make cookies last week, intending to give them out, but I ate them. Yes, all of them. And I am very afraid that if I attempt to make more, I'll just eat those too.

Yay for the mental health break for teachers! I kind of miss that, but I still get all twitchy about cleaning the house and reorganizing everything over break like I used to when I taught. It took about four months for the house to need that overhaul, then again at Spring Breka, then again over the summer.
